How To Shape & Wax Your Own Brows

How To Shape & Wax Your Own Brows

Whether you like your brows big and fluffy or sleek and sharp, giving those brows a little wax touch up is always a game-changer! Everyone knows that feeling when somehow it seems you've been avoiding mirrors and your brow hair catches up on you. Keep reading to learn the must-know steps to follow to achieve the perfect brows at home!

Prep

First things first- turn that wax pot on! While you're letting your wax heat up, use the time to prep for your new brows! Start by giving a good cleanse to the area, make sure all makeup and any other dirt/ oils are removed. Using our Kōlua wax CLEAN spray will ensure this, our formula also helps the wax only stick to the hair follicle and not the skin itself (less pain for you!). Once the brow area is clean and ready to go, you're ready to start shaping!

Shape

It may be exciting to get right to the waxing, but make sure you have a plan before you get started! Take a close up look in a mirror and with one of our aloha wax sticks, start to line up the start and end of your brows. This will allow you to see your arch and decide what needs to be done. If you have trouble visualizing the shape you want, try different shapes with a brow pencil but make sure to re cleanse properly and leave nothing behind. Before you start waxing, you may also trim the brows slightly to remove access volume for waxing (This step purely depends on preference). Once you've given your brows a final in-depth look and have your ideal shape in mind, it's time to wax!

Wax

Before you get right into applying the wax, make sure to test the temperature on the back of your hand. Remember you want honey-like consistency! Start with the tops/middle of the brows before waxing underneath. This will give you a couple of applications to get comfortable with the wax before you target the most sensitive area. Only use small amounts of wax and don't apply it too thick! For the brow area especially, you don't want access wax dripping in the areas you aren't trying to wax. Apply wax with the hair growth direction and keep the skin taut before pulling in the opposite direction. Make sure to pull parallel with your skin and not outwards which can cause the skin to pull and tear. I like to tilt my head back slightly for an easier application and fewer chances of drippage. You babes will be done faster than you think!

After Care

Your brows may be feeling slightly tingly, so here are a few aftercare tips to help soothe and ensure the best results. It’s very important not to touch the area while it’s so sensitive to avoid further irritation or infection. Try not to use any makeup on the area for at least 24 hours if possible. You may use a cold compress on the area if you feel necessary but using our Kōlua HYDRATE Post-Wax oil will help reduce redness and calm the skin down as well. This will also cleanse off any excess wax while re-hydrating the area.
